13" St. Benedict Sick Call Crucifix Set
A "sick call crucifix" typically refers to a specific type of crucifix that serves a dual purpose: it can be displayed on a wall as a regular religious symbol, but it also contains compartments and elements that allow it to be used for administering the Catholic sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick (formerly known as Last Rites). Overall, a sick call crucifix combines practical functionality with symbolic religious significance, embodying the Catholic belief in the healing and comforting power of the sacraments during times of illness or distress.
This 13" hard wood sick call crucifix features a traditional crucifix design with a figure of Jesus Christ on the cross. The crucifix is larger than a standard crucifix to accommodate additional features.
A hidden compartment behind the figure of Christ within the cross itself can be opened and contains items necessary for administering the Anointing of the Sick: a small vial for containing holy oil, 2 small candles that fit in the holders located on the cross and printed instructions/prayers.
When not in use for the sacrament, the sick call crucifix can be displayed prominently on a wall in a home or in a hospital room, serving as a reminder of faith and offering comfort to the sick or their loved ones.
